Building Blocks community leadership program 2025

Wyndham’s Building Blocks community leadership program is an inspiring program offering a unique opportunity to learn community leadership skills, connect with other passionate community-minded people and be supported to undertake a local community project.

Wyndham is one of the fastest growing regions in Australia, welcoming thousands of new residents each year keen to make Wyndham their home.

We are seeking local community members who have the energy, heart and desire to build connections, a sense of belonging and vibrancy in one of the new neighbourhoods in Wyndham.

We define 'new neighbourhoods' as a new housing development that has been established within the last 5 years.

For the purpose of Wyndham’s Building Blocks Community Leadership Program, we define a community leader as:

“A community member who mobilises and empowers others to make positive change within the Wyndham community through tangible actions with demonstrable community benefits.”

Program information

Eligibility

You must live, work, learn or play in Wyndham
You must be 18+ years old
You must be able to commit to participate in all the scheduled sessions
You must have an idea for a group project or an action that will be of benefit to the Wyndham community and participate in delivering the project

Priority will be given to applicants who are connected to new neighbourhoods.

However, projects MUST be undertaken

in a new neighbourhood.

About the Program

The delivery of the program is a blend of face to face in Werribee on Saturday afternoon, and online via Zoom on Wednesday evening.

8 sessions will run from March to May (Wednesday evenings & Saturday afternoons)

PLUS an optional Council Meeting in April

PLUS project planning and delivery throughout June, with a final debrief in July.

Some extra time for independent activities will be required but no more than one hour a week.

Topics include:

Community leadership through a community development values lens
Leadership styles
Group dynamics, communication, team work
Local government structures and processes
Action planning

Applications close Sunday 2nd March.

Short listed candidates invited to participate in an online Group Interview process on Wednesday 12th March @ 6.30pm (keep this time free in your calendar!)

Offers sent out Wednesday 19th March. Formal acceptance MUST be made by Friday 21st March.

The program will commence Wednesday 26th March @ 6.30 for an on-boarding and program orientation session.

Saturday 29th March @ 1pm we will meet face to face for a Welcome to Country.

A NOTE for Building Blocks alumni

Building Blocks started in 2014, and since then 21 programs have been delivered, this being the 22nd program. There are over 400 people who have graduated from the Building Blocks (BB) program, who make up the BB community leaders network in Wyndham. Those who participate in this program will be invited to join the network.

Past participants of Building Blocks programs (the "alumni") are not eligible to apply for this program. Other exciting opportunities specifically for alumni will be offered throughout the year.
